Speaking English to yr friends, colleagues, or even yr husband??????It's not easy. People laugh at u
Nguyên văn bởi mẹ Linh con
or u cannot speak naturally
. I'm sure. U just can do it in yr English class or with yr foreign customers (luckily!!!!
). One way could help you speaking naturally that is: Read out newspaper wherever and whenever, try to summary and remember what it talks about, then you speak out anything leave in yr mind and check it. This way could help u to improve both yr reading and speaking skills.
But I think the best way to practice speaking skills is: Register yr name in a public speaking class. It's my experience.

If you want to perfect your English, you shouldn't be afraid to speak it out or be laughed at!
Nguyên văn bởi childlike mother
Learning a foreign language is a gradual process, in which you learn from mistakes, from trial-and-error. If your friends or colleagues, or even your hubby, also want to practise English with you, then why not? Why don't you start each day by telling your dear hubby why you fell in love and still are in love with him in English?
Practising with someone else or a group of people would help you correct one another! So be brave and speak up!

Re: Cùng nhau học tiếng Anh trên WTT
one of my English teachers once told me that if someone wants to understand what English native speakers say, he/ she should pronounce English correctly. So, your first step would be looking up words in dictionaries, try to pronounce them correctly. If you are not sure about the pronunciation of any word, don't try to guess how it is pronounced, look it up in the dictionary. There are a lot of exceptions in English, especially American English. Btw, why don't we talk about this topic. Anyone could share her knowledge of any exceptions which may help prevent others from misusing.

The key to accurate pronunciation is phonics and intonation, understanding how a word is pronounced and how its syllables are stressed. Thereafter, you may start looking up the dictionary for pronunciation of words about which you are not sure. That's how I started learning English, even before I learnt how to construct a sentence. Hope it helps. Happy learning!!!

I agree with your idea 100%. The first thing you should remember is be nót afraid of mistakes. The second thing is to take any chance to express your thoughts in a simple way......

I hope you don't mind if i may want to correct your message
Nguyên văn bởi PHƯƠNG ANH
"I also agree with you that we shouldn't be afraid, and should keep on practicing our speaking and listening skills. My listening skill is so bad that I can't understand what others say. Could anybody tell me how to improve it?"
I have refered to this solution in the earlier message: you should try to pronounce the word correctly first, then you can understand. Since English is a language with multi-syllable words, the stress on which syllable is so important. If you are not sure which syllable you should put the stress on, don't guess, look it up in the dictionary.
Btw, I started my listening skill by listening to the VOA (Voice of America) Special English (www.voa.gov, I guess. You can always search for it on Google). Would you like to try??Home is where the heart is. Welcome to our home sweet home...page

Let me correct the above story, will you?
Nguyên văn bởi childlike mother
Two foreigners walked towards me when I was waiting for my husband outside Metropolitan building. They looked like tourists carrying a lot of souvenir bags. One of them approached and asked me gently, "Excuse me, do you speak English?"
"Oh, yes, I do." I was thinking to myself, "God", thanks for giving me a chance to speak English".
"Do you know where REKH hotel is?" He had a strange accent and his pronunciation was difficult to comprehend.
"I beg your pardon, sir?" I wasnot able to catch the name of the hotel.
"Rekh hotel", he repeated slowly.
"Rekh hotel? Rekh hotel? Oh, I have never heard of this name before. Where is it? Why haven't I heard of it? Could it be a new hotel?"
The man was looking at me and waiting patiently for my answer while his companion seemed impatient and was about to walk away.
"I'm so sorry, but I don't know where it is". I regretted that I couldn't help them.
"Oh", he shrugged his shoulders. His facial expression revealed that he was amazed that I didnot know that hotel.
"Ah, you may ask the security guard", I suggested to him.
"No, thanks". And then, they walked away.
The security guard came over and said to me: "They asked you where REX hotel was"
Oh, God. I knew exactly where REX hotel was, which was very near here. But I couldn't catch its name because of the gentleman's strange accent ....
